I wrote this song while being homesick in college in 1999 with my friend Donald who was at the same school but taking Radio Broadcasting so we spent late night hours recording the original on reel to reel in the college radio studio. This version is one I recorded a few years later using the mic on my eMac, and GarageBand.
we were young at 18 and it shows in the lyrics,
I recorded this version for for a holiday show I played around 2004 and gave out 50 cds with it on it.
I do think often about rewriting the lyrics and spending time to record it proper. who knows, maybe someday.
lyrics
we came nineteen hundred miles from home
now we are all alone
can't wait to go back home for the holidays
soon we will be on our way
gonna get together with our family and drink some beer with our friends
we will share some memories
and shed some tears
we will be together again
we're going home for christmas this year
we're gonna have some laughs, we're gonna drink some beer
cuz we're going home for christmas this year
Home
home is where the heart is
and our hearts are in the hills of Cape Breton
snow is on the ground
and the smell of evergreens all around
Chorus
the salt blows
off the ocean shore
and the ice is frozen on
the lakes of bras d'Or
Chorus
